Out-of-Town Shuttles at Orlando Airport
If you are looking for a shared shuttle to Port Canaveral, be cautious when booking with out-of-town shuttles based in locations far east of Orlando, including ones from Cocoa Beach and Port Canaveral. These shuttles often require an advance payment of your reservation total (including additional tax, fees, tip etc.). They will assign a time that you will be required to report or you forfeit your seat. This is the least advisable option and the reviews of most of these companies over the last decade reflect exactly this. Be certain you have specific instructions on how to find the location for your scheduled pickup at the airport. Shuttle prices are usually advertised at a per-person rate, but the rate per-person shown does not include additional fees that they will actually charge on your credit card. Get an exact amount that you are authorizing them to charge before you confirm your reservation. This is best if done by phone if the reservation form on their website does not clearly state what the total amount they will be charging and that you are agreeing to. keep in mind, if only a few people show up for the shuttle you might get a dirty minivan that has 300k miles on it, or if they can lure enough people in with the seemingly cheap transport to Port Canaveral prices, you might get to wait until 50 other passengers get their luggage on the motor-coach below and find their seats before you leave the airport. If you are traveling alone, this is definitely the cheapest option for an airport to port transfer but it will also be the longest.
Taxi Orlando Airport to Port
If you are traveling from the airport to your cruise with a small family or group and you have not arranged transfers, you might be tempted to just grab a taxi from the taxi stand on the ground level of both terminals of the airport. We strongly advise against this! Taxis do not charge a flat rate for the trip between MCO and Port Canaveral. They run a meter at $2.50 per mile for the 44.5 mile journey. This means it is more expensive than a luxury sedan and one very important element is that most taxi drivers working a taxicab out of the Orlando Airport have never made the trip to Port Canaveral, so when they get there they are clueless on where it is that they need to drop you off. Port Canaveral has more than 4 active cruise ship terminals with strict regulations on picking up and dropping off there. You wont have to wait as long to start your journey as you might with the shared ride shuttle however getting to the correct location at the port could be an entirely different UN-welcomed adventure. When trying to catch a taxi from Orlando Airport there are many factors that you need to take in to consideration. There are several different taxi companies that operate out of Orlando Airport and most of them only operate drivers that are required to pay for a cab before making any money. The companies do not care if the drivers have a bad driving record or if they have a criminal record all they care about is getting the money from the driver. When it comes to the service that the drivers perform you will be nothing but disappointed if you are even able to communicate with your driver. Many taxi drivers do not speak English as their first language and are not trained to know the location they are traveling to. When it comes down to a taxi transporting you to your cruise at Port Canaveral many taxi's do not get such fares as their taxi fare to Port Canaveral is much more than a clean reliable limo service. Every time we see a taxi at Port Canaveral that came from Orlando they are totally lost and driving around in circles as they are not familiar with the Commercial ground transportation procedures that are in place by the Port Canaveral Police department and that regulate any commercial vehicle dropping off passengers. Do not be caught driving around in a taxi cab with a driver that has no clue of what he is doing and circling your cruise ship and possibly cause you to miss your cruise.
